Under Phase 1 of our project, Wardhall Community Land Trust has been identified as one of twelve pilot CLT schemes. These were refered to in a recent House of Commons debate on the Housing Bill and have received support from the Carnegie UK Trust via the CLT development work of the University of Salford’s Community Finance Solutions under a two year project funded by Carnegie UK.

Allerdale Borough Council Housing Needs surveys have been circulated to all parishes within the Borough. They can be viewed at the Allerdale Borough Council’s website by following the links to housing strategies. These surveys have identified a need for affordable housing. Phase 2 of our project requires the Company to explore with residents of the area the means by which this need can be met in ways which will assist the sustainability of rural communities.

We have also invited a representative of the Borough Council with responsibility for the demolition of derelict buildings. There are currently 140 on the Council's books and many are in rural locations. We hope that there is scope to work with the Council, to give a new lease of life to such buildings.
